SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all by 2030

WHY IT MATTERS

Ensuring healthy lives and promoting wellbeing for all is important to building prosperous societies. So far, major progress has been made in improving the health of millions of people.

However, at least half the world’s population are still without access to essential health services.  Non-communicable diseases (NCD), such as heart attacks, strokes, cancers, respiratory diseases and diabetes are also the leading cause of deaths annually. These diseases are driven by rapid urbanization, unhealthy lifestyles and population ageing.

  • What Can I Do?
Buy fair-trade and other ethically sourced products where people are offered decent prices for their produce and labour. Volunteer in a skill-sharing programme within your college or community e.g. computer skills, building a resume, preparing for job interviews. Campaign for international solutions for peace. Violent conflicts and social upheaval are one of the main drivers of poverty. Food waste is linked to global poverty as consumers increase the demand for food by causing prices to rise and make food less affordable for others. Write to your local TD’s, and ask them to make sure Ireland continues to work towards achieving an end to world poverty.
